CHAPTER 12

Arrested.

Okay, so we were threatened with arrest.

Thankfully, Leo was quick on his feet and sent a text to Ransom Baxter who promptly spoke to the arresting officers, who then let us off with a thousand dollar fine—per person!

I guess Jasper and I should be grateful they didn’t fine Fish and Sherlock as well—although judging by the angry look in the eyes of those men, they thought about it.

As Jasper gently reminded me, it could always be worse. And seeing that the cruise isn’t even halfway through, I have a feeling things are about to get decidedly worse, indeed.

And as of about seven-thirty this morning, they did. A knock erupted at our door just as we were getting ready to head for breakfast, aka attack the buffet, and on the other side was housekeeping with a trunk load of Dream Dresses, enough to outfit the entire ship—or as the note said, to outfit those traveling with me that I love.

Love or hate? That is the question when it comes to distributing these prairie-based rompers.

But I digress. After our near arrest, we spent the afternoon—our very last day on Oahu—with the rest of our party, lazily lounging on Waikiki Beach, rolling around in warm sand, swimming in warm waters—everyone swam but me.

Mack found her luxury shops, and Macy and Camila went clubbing that night and came back with matching tattoos on their rumps of lip prints. I was afraid to ask. But Georgie pointed out it was a visual instruction for whoever happened to stumble upon it. I happen to think she’s right.

Maui—wowie!

When I tried to imagine what Hawaii might look like, Maui is the exact visual representation. Palm trees, miles of white sandy beaches, a plethora of surfers sprinkled in crystalline blue waters, and bronzed bodies lounging out in the sun—and that’s just what I could see from the balcony outside my cabin.

Since the ship can’t dock in the harbor, once we disembark we’ll be shuttled to shore by an entire fleet of smaller boats called tenders. And the best part about our stay on this dreamy tropical island? The ship will be docked in Maui waters for two glorious days.

We head to the gangway in a giant mob. Don’t be fooled, our party of fourteen doesn’t plan on spending the day together in fear another illegal trauma might occur.

Hux and Mackenzie laughed all the way to the bank with the two thousand dollars they saved—or three had they dragged the baby up the Stairway to Heaven—or Stairway to Financial Repercussions as it were. They’re off to do who knows what.

Georgie is spending the day with Jasper and me—mostly so we can keep an eye on her. And Fish and Sherlock are more than grateful she’s coming along because she’s loaded her pockets with snacks for each of them. Bacon for Sherlock and sushi rolls for Fish. The latter worries me far more than the former, but Fish asked me
